Danielle Fagen
Costume Designer
I chased my dreams to Berlin, Germany, where I learned and absorbed all that I could The art and films I’ve seen or studied have sent me in the path of Set and Costume design. However, inspiration for me can come from anywhere: apartment liquidation stores, garbage on the street, every space, every texture, every person on the subway, from dear friend to family member, everything I see is part of the fabric of my language for interpretation. Every image is precious, every detail to be relished. I lived in Berlin for three years, and immersed myself in a culture that is not my own. My goal was and continues to be, to keep looking and never overlook the inspiration that lies in front of me.
A diverse artistic background is what I strive to cultivate, to better synthesize the imagery I create, and the stories I contribute to telling, no matter the medium I take on. I enjoy collaborative art forms such as Theatre and Film because everyone can bring forth their expertise and knowledge, to create (ideally!) a masterwork. Each department has a vision which coincides with another, never simply compliments it. I revel in the opportunity of a new artistic challenge, and strengthen myself as an artist by adding to my skill set to further express myself.
I have now returned to Montreal, to use what I have learned internationally and focus on creating my own artistic language. Currently, I intend to further explore costume as its own interpretive art form, based on research and integrated into the performance as a living and evolving sculpture.
